The Mandate & The Decade-Defining Standard

Why Austrade is procuring this now, and how this framework will support regional Australia through 2035.

The Baseline

The current national guide is 14 years old

The reference document ('Don't Risk it!') was published in July 2012 under the Tourism 2020 strategy. It pre-dates the Sendai Framework, the National Disaster Risk Reduction Framework, and modern multi-hazard warning systems (AFDRS). Austrade requires a contemporary resource aligned with national disaster doctrine.

The Impact

Work that serves regional communities through 2035

The 2012 guide served the sector for over a decade. What our consortium builds here will be the operational benchmark relied upon by regional tourism leaders, council economic development officers, and local business chambers across Australia for the next decade.

The Outputs

Actionable field toolkits, not academic shelfware

Austrade is procuring operational assets that local officers can use under pressure: crisis communication holding templates, rapid incident checklists, destination recovery workflows, and business continuity guides.
